My favorite aspect of the course was the content that we learned, as it was very interesting and really applicable to many of the things that I am learning at school. I managed to learn a lot about data science in a very short time period, as I had little to no experience in data science prior. This course developed my interest in data science and how I can apply it in the finance world.
Something I really enjoyed during the course was the ongoing stock market game, as we could apply the techniques and analysis methods learned from the syllabus to invest in stocks that best fit our style. For example, if we were a more aggressive investor, we could select stocks with a high return but high risk, or if we were more conservative, we could select stocks that had a low return but a lower chance of losing money.
Overall, I learned a lot in this course, and it definitely exceeded all the expectations I had set. Thank you, Mr. Lee, for this amazing course!

John is a very considerate teacher in my mind. His course is friendly to non-native English speakers, as he speaks every word clearly and always listens carefully to the questions, so the language barrier would not hinder us from learning.
Besides, John always provides extra content for us, including the off-class reading materials and the related knowledge extension in depth in class. He always aims to let us understand the theory behind the techniques and grasp how to use them, instead of merely telling us what they are. When we were having trouble understanding some points, John would draw on the PowerPoint to show the structure of an algorithm or the distribution of data. Those drawings are extremely useful for me to understand the principles without over-concerning the complex terminologies.
In conclusion, John’s class is easy for beginners to start up in the field of quantitative finance, while it also contains higher-level content that would be beneficial for students with solid foundation knowledge.

My favorite part of the Data Science in Quantitative Finance and Risk Management class was how Mr. Lee engaged with students. He always started off with an interesting story or asked students to share what they were up to, he always answered questions even in the middle of a lecture, and he always supported us with homework questions outside of class time. I was surprised by how even though it was a course more advanced than what I’m used to, he was ready to simplify the lessons and take it back to a level I could understand.
I think the most unique thing about the course was the variety of people in it – in our group projects, everyone had very different backgrounds and could bring different skills and ideas to the table. I would recommend this course to anyone interested in statistics and data science who isn’t afraid to put in a little effort and work hard.

As I entered this course, I had little knowledge of data science. Mr. Lee explained everything, from the concepts to the code, in an understandable and engaging way. Through his labs, I was able to apply my skills and what I had learned during the week, which vastly improved my understanding of the concepts taught in class. I could connect everything together, and my understanding of how to use data science in finance culminated over the duration of the course.
Mr. Lee is very engaging, and he never fails to answer anyone’s questions. He is also extremely easy to reach out to and communicate with, always willing to set up office hours when I needed. During those office hours, he not only cleared up any misunderstandings or doubts I had but also taught me concepts beyond the scope of this course.
Lastly, the stock market game was an excellent playground in which I could test my skills and experiment, causing me to love this subject even more. I highly recommend this course to anyone interested in learning the basics of quantitative finance, as Mr. Lee makes it less intimidating and more fun!
